Sheikh Abadir Umar ar-Rida Al Harari, Harar’s legendary founder and second emir also known as Aw Abadir [Father Abadir] and Fiqi Umar. He was a Muslim cleric and patron Sufi saint of the city of Harar. He is regarded as the immediate common patriarch of the Harari, the Somali Sheekhaal clan, and the Halaba.

Ar-Rida is the main figure in the ‘Fath Madinat Harar’, an unpublished history of Harar in the 13th century. According to the account, he along with several other religious leaders traveled from the Hijaz region of present-day Saudi Arabia to Harar in 612H (1216 AD).

Later He united five Harari cities [Iskhanti Gey, Faraqa Gey, Harawe Gey, Hasan Gey, Samti Gey, Tukhun Gey] build up under one city and renamed the city ‘Harar Gey’ .This was in an effort to unite local constantly conflicting Harari tribes into a single umbrella identity, the “Harari Muslim”.

After marrying a Harari woman, he subsequently built the famous mosque, known as the Jamia site, which until this day stands tall albeit renovated. Ar-Rida is also mentioned in the lists of Emirs of Harar (1000–1014 AD).

Sheikh ar-Rida’s tomb in Harar is a popular place of pilgrimage. as Aw Abadir is the ‘Father of Hararis’ his grand grand sons are still accepted as leader in Harari community.
