Translated By: Shah MeduOriginal story was in Urdu by: Akmal Khan Rehan

There was a noticeable dent on the door of a BMW car, but the owner chose not to repair it. When questioned about the damage, he would always respond with this thought-provoking phrase: “In the race of life, one should not run so fast that someone has to stop the car by hitting a brick.”

The listener would be a little surprised to see the moisture in his eyes and then shake his head not understanding. It’s like trying to listen to a whisper or talk to a brick.

As a young business manager driving home in his new BMW from the office to his house in DHA, He had been passing through a less developed area on the outskirts of the city. Suddenly he saw a small child run towards the road, prompting him to slow down. However, to his dismay, the child threw something at his car, and a brick hit the door with a thud, leaving a significant dent. He immediately stopped the car, stepped out. He inspected the damage, and saw the door had a big dent.

Boiling with anger, he ran and caught the brick-hitting child and shouted loudly.

Are you blind?

Child of a madman?

Will your father pay for it?

He roared from zero.

The face of the child wearing a dirty shirt had mixed expressions of regret and desperation.

The child said, I don’t know what else to do?

I raised my hand and ran but no one heard the call. He said something in broken Urdu. Suddenly, tears welled up in his eyes and he pointed towards a low area of the road where my father had fallen. It is very heavy. I was not getting up, what should I do?

A surprise appeared on the face of the Business Executive and he went quickly towards the low land area along with the child and saw a disabled person lying face down in the mud and a wheelchair had fallen. It seemed that the wheelchair could not be handled by the child due to heavy weight, and it fell down, along with the cooked rice, which the father and son had brought from somewhere.

The child said, “Please Pick up my father and make him sit on the chair. Meanwhile, the child in the white shirt continued to have frequent hiccups.

The neck of the young executive was like a noose. He understood the matter and felt remorse for his anger. Without caring about his suit, he went forward with all his strength and picked up the groaning disabled person and somehow made him sit on the wheelchair. The condition of the father of the child was dire, his face marked with painful scratches.

He ran to his car and took out ten thousand from his wallet and put it in the pocket of the disabled person with trembling hands. Then cleaned his scratches with tissue paper and pushed the wheelchair up. The child looked at him with tears of gratitude and then took his father and walked towards his home. His father was constantly raising his hands towards the sky and praying for the young man.

The young man later opened a Jhagi school for the people living in Jhagi with the support of a charity organization and in the coming years that child along with many other children joined the race of life.

The BMW stayed with him for another five years, but he never bothered to fix the dented door, no matter how many times people asked him about it. He would only to say:

“In the race of life, one should not run so fast that someone has to stop the car by hitting a brick.”

Likewise the story above, sometimes someone whispers in our ears and sometimes speaks to our heart. When we refuse to listen to him, he sometimes throws a brick at us.

Then we have to listen to that.

When we are running for the happiness of a job, business, family, wife and children, there are many mute screams and whispers scattered around us.

It is good that we listen to the whispers around us, so that it would not bring our turn to throw bricks at us.
