The URS Mobarak of the great Sufi Saint and poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is fast approaching, scheduled to commence on 20th August 2024. As is tradition, the Culture Department of the Government of Sindh has extended an invitation to the world-renowned Sufi Singer, Sanam Marvi, to perform and pay homage to the esteemed poet with her mesmerizing vocals on the auspicious occasion of this URS Mobarak.

Sanam Marvi is set to enrapture the audience with her performance on 22nd August, coinciding with the 3rd Dhamal of URS Sharif. She eagerly calls upon all her devoted fans to join her at the Shah Bhittai URS Mobarak in Bhit Shah, Sindh, for an unforgettable evening filled with diverse melodies and captivating voices.

Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, also known as Lakhino Latif, Latif Ghot, Bhittai, and Bhit Jo Shah, is widely recognized as the greatest poet of the Sindhi language. He was a Sindhi Sufi mystic and poet from Pakistan, with his birth believed to have taken place in 1689 or 1690 in Hala Haweli near modern-day Hala.

Bhittai’s ancestors originated from Herat and migrated to Sindh from there during the late 14th century. His poetry reflects his strong monotheistic beliefs and the conviction that the world was created exclusively for the Prophet Mohammed Sallahu Alaihi wa alihi wasallam, in alignment with the common beliefs among Sunni Sufis.

Meanwhile Sanam Marvi, a celebrated figure in Sufi music, holds great reverence in Pakistan and beyond. With the ability to sing in Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, and Saraiki, she presents a truly exquisite rendition of Sufi poetry, showcasing an astonishing vocal range.

Under the guidance of her father and the tutelage of classical music icons like Abida Parveen and Ustaad Fateh Ali Khan, Sanam honed her craft by performing at various festivals and shrines across Pakistan during her formative years. In 2009, a breakthrough performance on national television propelled her to overnight stardom.

Since then, she has embarked on global tours, bringing together millions of fans across different cultures and generations through their shared adoration for Sufi music. As a regular feature on Pakistan’s renowned Coke Studio show, Sanam continues to break boundaries. Her musical influence has extended into Bollywood and has earned her accolades from UNESCO, as well as Pakistan’s highest civilian award.
