Elgin Academy, a well-established private school that closed its doors in June after nearly two centuries of operation, is now under new ownership. The prospective owners, announced in a YouTube video by the organizers of the proposed Burhan Academy, intend to transform the campus into an Islamic school catering to students from preschool through 12th grade.

Paul Druzinsky, currently serving as the interim head of Elgin Academy, has verified that the property at 350 Park St. is pending sale for $3.7 million, with the transaction anticipated to be completed by the end of this month.
In order to secure the purchase of the 18-acre campus, the organizers are striving to raise several million dollars by the end of the month.
Druzinsky expressed his enthusiasm for selling the property to another school that will continue the tradition of excellence, stating, “I think it’s wonderful. It’s something the community needs.”
Elgin Academy, having diverse enrollment of students, including many from the Muslim community, as noted by Druzinsky, a seasoned educator with over 40 years of experience. He highlighted the deep commitment to education and excellence held by these families.
“I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with exceptional Muslim families,” he said.
In line with the objectives of similar religious day schools, Druzinsky underscored Burhan Academy’s dedication to providing a demanding and exceptional academic program rooted in their faith.

In addition to the four classroom buildings, the campus features an art gallery, gymnasium, and offices for admissions, administration, development, and alumni relations. Additionally, it encompasses a sports complex with tennis courts, fields, and a track.
