Timothy John Winter, also known as Abdal Hakim Murad, embraced Islam in 1979 and has since become a prominent English academic, theologian, and Islamic scholar. He founded the Cambridge Muslim College and currently serves as its Dean. With a focus on Islamic neo-traditionalism, he has authored works on various topics such as Islamic theology, modernity, and Anglo-Muslim relations, while also translating several Islamic texts.
Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad, who received his education from Cambridge, Al-Azhar, and London universities, remains actively involved with the college as Chair of the Board of Trustees. He presently holds the position of Shaykh Zayed Lecturer of Islamic Studies in the Faculty of Divinity at Cambridge University and serves as the Director of Studies in Theology at Wolfson College. Furthermore, he is recognized as a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s ‘Thought for the Day’.
