(One)
Step outside, Beloved.
Into winter’s crisp embrace
Let the sun paint a portrait on your face
Let the frost be your companion.
Walk.
(Two)
Marvel at the majesty of trees
Let nature’s elegance enchant you out of yourself. Take it all in. There is so much magic here.
(Three)
God is with you.
In the darkness.
In the overwhelm
When you feel bloated on things
That you can’t control.
Remember; God is close.
(Four)
Breathe, Beloved
Breathe deep.
Exhale all that makes you weary
Into the sea of tomorrow
Let it’s waves carry your woes away.
Be tender with yourself.
(Five)
Indulge in poetry
The kind that makes your eyes glisten
With the lights from distant galaxies
That makes rose gardens grow inside your chest. Let those flowers bloom and burst.
Exhale its perfume.
(Six)
Linger in plant shops.
Befriend those who understand the language
Of those beings that sprout from the earth
Whose limbs point to the heavens.
That always makes you smile.
(Seven)
Buy a plant with enormous leaves
Place it in your prayer space
So when you place your face to the ground
In prostration. In devotion.
You will feel as though
You are under the Shade of God.
(Eight)
You are not failing at life by the way
You know that right? You are carving your path across the surface of the ocean. Don’t be afraid of drowning.
You are held.
(Nine)
You are radiance in the body of a woman.
Glowing and growing
And perfect exactly as you are.
(Ten)
Read number nine again.
Believe it this time.
(Eleven)
God can’t take his eyes off your heart.
I wish you could you see
How beautiful you are.
(Last week I wasn’t feeling great, I couldn’t put my finger on a specific reason. It felt like nothing was wrong and everything was wrong at exactly the same time, does that make sense? There was a weightiness and a weariness that was very apparent, but not companions I wanted hanging around. So I got to work, doing as much as I could to not let the darkness linger – being human is hard sometimes. This is a piece written in that state as a way to soar out of it. The things I mentioned are things I actually did. I share this as an offering. Maybe it will speak to you. Inspired by a poem by Rupi Kaur called A List of Things to Heal Your Mood.)
