Sufi Saint Mawlana Shaykh Abu Ahmad as-Sughuri Qaddas Allahu Sirru (May Allah Sanctify his secret) He was born in Sughur, a village in Daghestan on the 3rd of Rajab, Wednesday, in 1207 H/1789 AD. He passed away while at Sughur on the 17th of Rabi’ul-Awwal in the year 1299/1882 CE. at the age of 93.
He dislike to be famous in the society. But his fame and reputation spread far and wide. After the passing of his Master, Shaykh Jamaluddin al-Ghumuqi al-Husayni ق .
He was the Qutb of his time. He was the Inheritor of the Knowledge of Prophet (pbuh) in his time, the Imam of Qutbs, and the Adviser of the Kingdom of Guidance.
It is reported that when he was young, he would see the name of Allah ﷻ written in light between the heaven and earth. His character was one of modesty and humbleness; he disliked being surrounded by people all the time and preferred to be in a state of seclusion. He would sleep very little and would pray the fajr prayer with the same wudhu (Ablution) as the Isha prayer.
Such was his humbleness that he said “I don’t want to be known in this world after I die, because I don’t wish for myself any form of existence.” He was granted many miracles in his life and it is said that whenever anybody tried to take a photograph of him, the camera would not work or it would break.
As well as being a Sufi Master he was also a great warrior who fought tirelessly against the Russians, he was placed under house arrest by the Russians on many occasions. One time when he was arrested and put in a carriage to be taken away, all the people of the village came running to bid him farewell with tears in their eyes thinking they would never see the Shaykh again.
Shaykh Abu Ahmad as-Sughuri ق was loved deeply by all and each time he returned from prison he found his house filled with gifts and provisions for him. He was asked, “You are not working, the Russians are against you and you are fighting, how is it that your house is always full with provision? He replied, “Anyone who is struggling in the way of God, Allah will provide for him.”
A number of years after he had departed from this world his daughter had a dream in which she saw the Shaykh. He told her, “O my daughter, the stone of my grave has fallen down and is lying on my chest, pressing on me and hurting me.”
In the morning his daughter went to the Shaykhs of the town and related her dream to them. They decided to open the grave of Shaykh Abu Ahmad as-Sughuri ق in order to remove the stone and found his body and shroud clean and fresh as though he had just been buried that day.
May Allah ﷻ sanctify his secret and grant us the love of his Awliya.
Al-Fatiha!
