By Maruf Zaid Deen, Lagos, Nigeria:

To show love and appreciation to parents is not a mater of hard work. We can follow 10 easy steps to Show Love And Appreciation To our beloved Parents:

Our parents are the two most important people in the world for us. They have given us everything within their capability, and have helped shape us into the people that we are today IN SHAA ALLAH. They genuinely care about our health and well-being, and they have done everything under the sun for us, yet they have never asked for anything in return.
The status of our parents is high Before ALLAH SUBHANAHU WA TA’ALA, and this is precisely why our LORD THE PERFECT CREATOR Places great importance on parents and family.

“And your LORD HAS DECREED that you worship none but HIM. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: “My LORD! Bestow on them YOUR Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.” (Surah Isra 17:23-24)

Below are some practical ways to let our parents know what they mean to us, and how much we care for them:

  1. Show them that you love them:
Be open and honest with your parents and show them how much you care about them. Simply saying “I love and appreciate you and showing them your love for them” is the ultimate way to express your appreciation for them. Letting your parents know you are grateful for the impact they’ve had in your life will make their day.
  2. Pray and make daily dua for them:
Always strive to pray for your parents and regularly make du’a for them. One dua that we can make is …..RABBIR hamhuma kama RABBAYANEE sagheera – (My LORD! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small. Qur’an 17:24).
  3. Help around the house
Regardless of whether you live with them or not, go and help them around the house. You can do the laundry, iron their clothes or even make them lunch. This will surely help them a great deal and make a big difference.
  4. Spend time together
Giving time to our parents is something that we should all do irrespective of how busy we may be. They deserve it and it is actually for our own good. Make time for your parents and spend quality time together.
  5. Ask them for advice
Parents have so many life experiences that we can learn from. They know so much about us as they brought us up from childhood so utilise their invaluable advice.
  6. Be patient with them when they are old
They were patient with you every time you had tantrums when you were a toddler and when you were a stubborn teenager. Now, it is your turn to widen your understanding towards them. Being patient with them cannot be stressed enough. They deserve it!
  7. Involve them in your life and serve them
By doing this we will be able to keep our parents active and it will give them a new lease of life. Plus they will be happy! You can never repay them for their sacrifices for you, but at least you can show your gratitude through this.
  8. Call them regularly
Doing this will make our parents feel appreciated and respected. They will feel valued and will likely to be happier and relaxed in life. Call them, it doesn’t take long and its quick and easy.
  9. Focus your full attention on them when they are around.

Every time you are with your parents, avoid texting, checking your Facebook, or playing games on your phone. Make the most of your time with them by chatting with them and listening attentively.

  1. Give charity on their behalf
There are so many rewards in offering charity so do this for them. Charity is a great blessing so do this as consistently as you can!

I pray to ALLAH THE ALL-ABLE to Enable us to do our best to make life easy for our parents, honour them, be kind to them, assist them, and please them so that we may attain the love of ALLAH.
May ALLAH’S Peace and mercy be upon our beloved parents.
